BLOC+

BLOC+:

For this week’s instalment of the GlasgowEats blog I visited BLOC+. BLOC+ is located on bath streets and sits below street level, with a small outdoor seating area. We were able to be seated straight away, this is not always possible as it can be busy and the restaurant doesn’t currently take bookings. Inside the restaurant is very casual with a relaxed atmosphere.

One of the appeals of BLOC+ is the deals that they offer on every day of the week with a different cuisine discounted each day:

-       Monday- Macaroni cheese (£3)

-       Tuesday- Steak burger (£3)

-       Wednesday- Steak (£5)

-       Thursday- Kentucky fried chicken breasts (£4)

-       Friday- Hotdog (£4)

In addition to these special discounted menu items there is also a large range of other options that run at full price and are available to order on any day or at any time. BLOC+ used to offer all deals on a Sunday, unfortunately they have recently discontinued this promotion.

I visited the restaurant on a Wednesday so therefore ordered a steak with peppercorn poutine fries, along with a side of chilli nachos to share. This was brought quickly to the table and although the steak was maybe not the best cut of meat it was cooked well and very tasty; for £5 it is hard to complain. The poutine fries (costing an additional £2) were an enjoyable side and and made the meal slightly more substantial. They came covered in peppercorn sauce as well as melted mature cheddar cheese. The nachos however I would not recommend as the cheese was unmelted and other the toppings cold. Costing £4.95 I felt that these were overpriced in comparison the other menu items, especially when taking the poor quality into consideration.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit to BLOC+. Yet again it offers tasty food for an extremely reasonable price tag, ideal for students eating out on a budget. Although the food was maybe not of the highest quality, this is to be expected for cost. The permeant menu items that are not discounted offer a higher quality of eating.
